Had my oil changed yesterday on my 1998 Ford Ranger.  They spotted that I
had no brake lights.

Took it to the dealership, figuring that they wouldn't do anything too dumb.

They announced it was the turn signal stalk switch.  I indicated I was
skeptical, but they indicated they were confident in the diagnosis.

Stopped by the dealership today, and the mechanic was frustrated and
indicated that they still weren't working even after replacing the stalk
switch.  We went over his methods of diagnosis and so on.

My frank impression is that they won't be able to diagnose it or handle it
properly.  They'll end up replacing everything in the vehicle before they
figure it out.

Suggestions?

I have a BSEE and an MSEE and I can do stuff like that if I need to.  But I
really don't want to.  But it may come to that.

Any ideas or advice?

I do NOT want to get my hands dirty and get hopping with a multimeter --
that is a phase of my life that has passed by, and I don't enjoy tracking
things down through 5 wiring harnesses.

DF.

Hey, through out a line like that and you gotta expect an oil-dripping
crack.
