I have a VT1100C Shadow Spirit '86. Since it had been left out in the
weather in a past life, the turn signal and horn switches finally
crumbled. I purchased a new switch assembly for it, and it seems to be
a little quirky.
The turn signal switch, if pushed all the way left or right, does not
activate the turn signals (front, rear, or indicator light). However,
if the switch is slowly pushed to the right (or left), there seems to
be a "sweet spot" where the turn signals begin working as expected. If
I stop pushing the switch at this point, the signal keeps going strong,
and pushing the switch in cancels it as expected. But if I push the
switch past this sweet spot, the signals no longer work...
Also, under normal operations, both front turn lights should be on all
the time. When I first start up the bike, one or both of them are on.
But after I use the turn signal, the lights go out and usually don't
come back on the rest of the trip.
Any suggestions on further troubleshooting?

If my signal switch started doing this, it'd get a liberal shot
of WD40 and then maybe a second one a day or two later.
Sounds like mechanical problems in the switch. You might
also look for small openings that could allow water and dust in.
