I just installed the Giva A305 Windscreen on my bike.  It looks pretty
good, but I'm not so sure about its functionality.  One thing it does
is highlight how ugly my signals are.  I need to find some nice LED
ones.  The UK version of the bike already comes with nice looking
signals.

I should probably have taken off the tank bag for the photos.

David, you might want to think twice about changing the turn signals.  The
high visibility of the OEMs is a real advantage.  Yesterday I was across a
red light from a guy who had those aftermarket mini-signals on his
sportbike.  I didn't see them blinking until he cut across me when the light
changed.  If I, who look for these things, missed them, a BDC sure isn't
likely to see them.

That is a really good point.  I would not want to lose illumination
with aftermarket signals.  In fact, the OEM signals have a problem
with visibility from the side at certain angles.  Either that, or
people don't look for them as you say.  Not all intersections around
here are 90 degree cross roads.  There is one left that I take at
maybe 115 degrees or so where people on my left might not see the
signal.

It looks like aftermarket signals are a bit pricey.  I saw a nice set
that were $33ea.  No mention was made of the illumination level.  I
don't know what DOT standards are, but for signals I would certainly
like to at least meet if not exceed the standard.

The windshield/fairing, whatever you want to callit looks good.  Fit's
in nice with the lines of the bike.

I'd leave the stock turn signal lamps, those smallones are useless.

Which reminds me, HAND SIGNALS! The MSF doesn't teach hand signals,
because they figure the newbie has enough on his/her plate without
taking their hands of the bars to GET ATTENTION of cagers in all
directions and try to MAKE SURE they know what you are going to do.

CAGERS DO NOT SEE YOUR DIRECTIONALS they have no idea what they are if
they do see them, use them but pretend they don't work and DO NOT assume
that any other cage sees your directional lights. They most likely do
not.  Therefore, wherever possible use your handsignals, be IN THEIR
FACE and make sure they know you are stopping, turning or slowing down.
Eye contact is good, but clear, deliberate hand signals, eye contact or
not, are important. They wake people up, it's the movement.

I was on a ride the other day with a relatively new rider and he asked
me what all the hand waving was about. At first I thought he was
kidding, then I realized the was serious and had no clue about basic
hand signals.

Here's a good link for them.

Use them.

Man, that is right.
I still use hand signals. especially when riding in a group, if I wanna
ease over in front of a rider, I definately point with my arm and hand,
one direction are the other. You can tell if & when one uses hand
signals  the Rider has been riding for a number of years.
Those LED little lights are really not as bright as one might think,
just becasue they're LED.  bjay~
