Went down to the dealership today (Coldwater, Michigan). Place was rather
crowded, as snow season is coming. The motorcycles had less floor space
than ever, surrounded by snowmobiles.
Inquired to see how my valve adjustment was coming (after I stripped the hex
hole in one of the access ports). It appears that the mechanic has ordered
a new plug (access port) and o-ring (implying that he was able to remove it
after I stripped it without having to replace the left crankcase cover).
So, I'm on track to get the bike back next week or the week after.
The question is how to get it home before spring. The high temperature
today was about 30 degrees. It is about 25 miles from Coldwater to
Marshall. I refuse to ride in less than about 37 degrees, due to the risk
of ice. The 2006 Honda VT600C may spend the Winter at the dealership.

I haul bikes in the back of my pickup. Do you know anyone with a
pickup? You can often rent a pickup from Lowes or Home Deport for
$19.99 a day. Test drive a pickup? Know anyone with a full size
van? A bike will fit in a gas guzzling, exorbitant, why-didn't-they-
realize-gas-was-going-to-$4-per-gallon AMERICAN full-size van. You
can rent a u-haul trailer if you have a car with a hitch. Got any
friends who ride? Maybe they trailer/haul their bikes and can help
you out. The dealer may deliver for a fee. Maybe you'll get an
unseasonably warm day and can ride the bike home. If you leave the
bike there all winter, the dealer will almost certainly charge you a
weekly or monthly storage fee.
Good luck.

Only got up to 22° here...

..and almost all Interstate.

If it's a clear day, you won't find any ice on the I-69. On the surface
streets, don't ride over any dark spots. Heck, in the daytime, that's a
piece-of-cake ride.

Logically, you are correct of course.
But I have this idea in my head of me wiping out on ice at 65 MPH and then
getting hypothermia before the EMS crews arrive.
It is that classic question of whether you'd rather freeze to death or burn
to death. In the cold months, burning to death seems preferable; but on the
hot days in June or July freezing to death sounds attractive.

You need to grow a set and ride the bike home. If there is any ice
you should be able to see it during the day time. Here are a couple
of pictures for insperation.
