I cannot give you a link to the VIN data but, in the US, a
vehicle may not be sold as a particular year model more than
one Jan1 date of manufacture. That would allow a 1976 model
to be sold as early as Jan 2, 1975. The last production
date would be Dec 31, 1976. That keeps manufactures from
starting to sell a vehicle several years before the year of
the model even arrives. These dates also consider emission
and safety requirements that prevent a vehicle from
continuing in production for several years for the purpose
of avoiding updated standards.
