Hello, I need to find a servicable -- or even rebuildable -- fuel
petcock for a '84 Virago XV700.

If you can help, please drop me an email.

This bike sat for years and the poor fuel petcock is badly perished.

Thanks

Terry.

There are rebuild kits available, but they didn't help mine at all.
If only the carbs held back fuel from entering the crank-case. Then it
wouldn't matter much, but all three of mine didn't work in unison even
after multiple rebuilds. What a bike.

This one is beyond rebuilding. The screen is disintegrated.
A properly rebuilt petcock will hold the fuel back until the engine
develops vacuum.

I agree, but only if the petcock was a good design in the first place..
Good luck with that. Let us know how it goes.
Are you also suffering the famous Hitachi carbs trick of filling your
crank case up with the the three gallons of fuel that the petcock can't
hold back?

Fun.

Well, yeah, that's the symptom of a combination of a stuck float and a
degenerated petcock.

If I can't find a decent petcock, plan is to install a shut-off valve
-- and use it. And an in-line fuel filter. I may just adapt or modify a
different petcock to work as a shut-off valve.

Carbs are freshly rebuilt, the floats should be OK for at least a
while.
