Currently own a 1996 Suzuki Savage LS650. I enjoy the bike, but for a
few different reasons I am considering a new one and will probably
move up to something in the 750/800cc range.
I like the look of the Bouelvard S50 a little better. It has a
slightly larger engine than the Vulcan.
However, I like the handlebar arrangement of the Vulcan better. Other
pluses for the Vulcan: slightly less expensive, lots of stock
instrumentation (tach, speedo, tripmeter, fuel gauge, etc.) and all
right up front where I can see it easily w/o taking my eyes off the
road.
Beyond this, would anyone care to share an opinion on other issues I
should consider? Which bike do you like better and why?
(note: An ~800cc bike is about as large a bike as I need, I figure,
considering my short legs. I've decided for now to rule out the
Sportster due to the price.)

I'd take the Suzuki unless the Kaw is also fuel-injected.

I own a VN750. Nice bike, great mileage and fun to ride but . . .
If your big like me 260# seriously consider an aftermarket seat.
Also they have a weak electrical system. The voltage R&R is
located just above the pre-muffler (goats belly for the purist) and
in time will either have to be relocated or replaced in a cooler
location.
You do get more bang for the buck with a vn750, but frankly a step up
from a 650 to a 750 won't offer much of anything. The new 900LT by
Kawasaki is fuel injected, belt driven and has a nice accessory touch to
it. It may be a bit larger then what you were looking for but check it
out.
Tell you what, you buy my 750 and I'll buy the 900LT!

Absolutely. Mine is on the left hand side, out in the breeze now.

I think the new VN 900 is Fi too. In fact I'd bet money on it.

Seems like a plan to me :-)

But nowhere near as fast. However.....

But precious little in the way of after market parts specific to the 750.
The VN 800 has plenty.

I prefer the VN for it's speed and handling as both are superior to the
Suzi, but for looks (if you like the Harley look) the Suzi wins hands down.

Look hard at the VN 800. It's a strong as fuck machine and it's comfortable,
reliable and no slouch "come the need"
Forget the 750 though as it's poorly supported in the aftermarket area and
you WILL want to add bling at some point.
