You can ride a pedal bike?
Usual advice is to get a used smaller bike because you will drop it
while learning.  Experienced riders drop bikes if they get a little
careless.

I don't know, technique 2 seems like a good way to crush a disc (spinal disc
that is).  I've had good luck picking them up from the other side and
pulling toward me.

Technique 2 is for smallish motorcycles. Notice he's lifting with his
knees, not with his back. If you're bending over the bike and lifting,
you will hurt yourself. Besides, with the technique you recommend, it's
harder to reach for the side stand.
