I was riding the Harley on a 30-mph street heading into the farmlands
when a cager unsafely pulls out of a side street.

I don't know what the driver's problem was. It seems a lot of them
around here aren't very good at judging speed and distance. Anyway
I had to brake pretty hard. Meanwhile my left thumb was frantically
jabbing around trying to find the horn button. It's up high on the Ultra
but down low on the S40 which I had been riding a lot more lately.
You'd think that for safety's sake the manufacturers could agree
on a standard location.

Memo to self: locate the horn button each time I start a bike.

Used to be really fun when I owned 5 or 6 bikes, some that shifted
"backwards" and/or on the right side.  So I gave up on wimpy horns and just
shout "hey".

After nearly 40 years of rice burners I still catch myself looking for the
horn button, high beams, and turn signals. I guess I need to go out and ride
and practice finding the buttons more!

Cars aren't a whole lot better.  The accelerator and brake are always in the
same spot, but it is always a challenge to find wipers and washers and
hi-beams and such.

There was some model of car in the 80's (I think) where one did the horn by
pushing in the turn signal stalk.  That seemed unwise to me at the time.

That would be a Triumph Spitfire.
