Hey, how 'bout something on the lighter, more fun side?  The world
continues to go to hell in the proverbial handbasket, politicians
continue to make lying empty promises to constituents who are
desperate for any ray of hope, and - as the recent mortgage-firms
bailout proved - the rich politicians will steal tax dollars to take
care of their own, whether we vote it down or not,
But in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (with the exception of the
state's crookedest politicians in Sault Sainte Marie) people still
know how to have fun in winter.  With 150+ inches of snow on Whitefish
Point so far this winter, the U.P. is perfect for dogsledding - and
snowmobiling, and skiing, and snowshoeing, and sledding with the kids
- and you can see why nearly all pro-class mushers come here to train
for the Iditarod.  In fact, the upcoming U.P. 200 (www.up200.org) is a
qualifier for the Iditarod.  I'll be there, filming and photographing
one of my best (and prettiest) friends, Geri Minard, as she once again
strives to be first across the finish line.  I think we should loan
her two of our dogs, Cuda and Littlefoot; problem is, these two are
like driving a rail dragster with a stuck accelerator.  She'll do well
on her own, though, and I'll get good pics and footage of it.
Meanwhile, check out some of my pics from the recent (January 10)
Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race at:
