Hey guys, I just recently got my FZ600 running. I tried to run bigger
carbs on it with bad results and went back to the originals......I now
have alot of white (low idle) and black(reving) smoke. I took it out
for a drive and it bogs. Not the response it use to have. I see people
saying it may be running to rich, should I mess with the pilot screws,
or do something else first. Thanks

A LOT of black smoke while running at higher RPMs, you say?
Really black, or bluish?
What does it smell like?
Truly black smoke IS the classic sign of running way rich, so
yes, carb adjustments would be a good place to start. It
would be a good idea - since these are both fairly easy to
do - to pull a plug and take a look at it, and also see if your
oil (in the crankcase) is contaminated with either gas or coolant.
A LOT of white smoke, if you're getting that as well, could be
a sign of some other concerns.

Ooops - never mind on that last bit - the FZ (sans "R") is air-cooled,
ain't it?

Don't mess with stuff that you didn't already mess with.
If the carbs were jetted OK when you took them off,
the jetting probably hasn't changed. Don't make it
worse by touching new stuff that was fine before.
Are you sure that you got the choke and throttle
hookups put back together right ?
What else did you touch already while you were
doing this carb swap ?
When you do a simple inspection of the carbs, do
they look like all the parts are operating correctly
mechanically ?
Fer gawds sake, don't make it worse by trying
to adjust new stuff when the problem is most
likely in something you already worked on.
