Seeking information from owners and/or riders of the Yamaha V-Star 250
or its predecessor, the Virago.
I'm trying to decide between the V-Star and a Zuma 125. I fully
realize they are not comparable as one is a motorcycle and the other a
scooter; however, either would meet my commuting needs.
My Yamaha dealer called to say they were receiving two 2008 V-Star
250s from another dealer and understanding how models don't last long
during these days of ridiculous gas prices I'm thinking I'd better
grab the V-Star while the getting's good.
But I do find that new 2009 Zuma 125 quite appealing but it won't
arrive until mid-September. It would be great to have them both there
at the same time to make the choice but that's not the way it's
working out.
Anyone out there own and/or ride a Yamaha V-Star that can provide
insight as to power, reliability, comfort (I'm 6' 4" and weigh 245
pounds), etc. I'm really not interested in a larger, more powerful
motorcycles although I did look at a 2007, but brand new, Suzuki
Boulevard S40 for $3999.
Anyhow, any input on the V-Star would be appreciated. Thank you.

Here's a V-Star 250 link.

(BTW, if a alt.scooter troll named Turbo Torch/Boy George pops in with
his usual fabricated rant, just ignore him. I understand he suffered
brain damage in a childhood accident.)

I would definitely wait for the scooter, you'll get better gas
mileage.

Steve, you're probably right on the mileage. Do you know where I could
get mpg figures for the V-Star 250 and the Zuma 125 to compare them?

A guy who works at our local Sam's Club tire center recently rode over
500mi one way to/from NC on a the Virago 250 and said he got nearly
70mpg.

I owned a 250 Virago when I first started riding. I'm 5'5" and
nonofyurbusiness pounds. The bike was great for me with comfortable balance
for my size and flat footing. I can't imagine someone of your height/weight
enjoying the bike. If you can sit on one, or even a VStar 650, it will give
you an idea of what to expect.
It did ok on the highway but I'd get somewhat blown around by it's
lightweight. It would dog uphills (Michigan U.P.)
