I spend much of my time drinking and playing blackjack at the local casino,
and the Honda gets me back and forth ...
One day after parking at the casino, I smelled kind of a burning plastic
smell. This concerned me (I thought perhaps electrical or brake issues),
but I couldn't find anything wrong with the bike.
And it happened a little more, but couldn't find anything.
Found it yesterday. Apparently a plastic shopping bag made contact with my
lower muffler. Most of it has melted away, but there is still a gray paste
covering maybe 20 or 30 square inches on the lower muffler. It has melted
into a sludge.
There is no damage to the muffler, of course, and the issue is only
cosmetic. One day I might remove it (shouldn't be too difficult, as the
plastic will be softer than the muffler). But what a mess!
At least it isn't an electical problem ...

I wouldn't dismiss this quite so casually. If 20 or 30
square inches of muffler are covered with plastic sludge,
think of how this could throw the muffler's heat dissipation
out of whack and also create very asymetric oxidation patterns.
God only knows what the above may do to the bike's tuning
and engine wear. Seek help before it's too late.

You should be so lucky.
