Why are you surprised? "Cop" is a bureaucracy. If one wants promotions and
raises he must "grow the business". More cops mean more seargents, etc.
and nothing creates a hue and cry for more cops than a nice violent crime
wave. The more rapes and murders the better. So only a very stupid cop
would try to reduce the stuff that butters his bread. The next best thing is
to have the dept. actually earn money - by confiscating drug money and
writing $$big tickets. Thus it has ever been and thus ....
If you want someone to do something you cannot reward them for doing the
opposite.
Socialists cannot understand that.

You didn't read the article very well. The cops are ignoring the
violent crimes to keep the numbers of them reported artificially low,
while going out of their way to bust people for petty drug infractions
because there are big federal incentives to raise those numbers.
Cops, as all govies, are Socialists. They take their directions from
govie leadership, not market forces. Oddly, they should be following
the law and prioritizing their time removing the violent offenders.
But then I suppose that "protect and serve" motto is just empty
rhetoric like most of the BS govies like us to parrot.

Sounds more like the cops are seeking opportunities to do well for themselves
and ignore what's good for the society... sounds more like capitalism to me.
