There's a company in Israel that manufactures two versions of this
device.

One version is smaller and, as I recall, it has a range of about 25~50
feet and it sends out a signal that tricks a cell phone into thinking
it isn't getting any signal so it hangs up.

The larger version is suitcase-sized and it has a longer range. It is
designed to protect public buildings against bombs triggered by cell
phones.

And both will have the result of people LOOKING at their phones,
fumbling with them to dial out again after staring at the signal meter
for 5-8 seconds, increasing the distraction level.

Oh, and not only are jammers illegal, just about any one you can buy
only jams analog signals which just so happened to have been shut off
permanently by the carriers last week.

What you really need is a mil-spec ecm pod that fits in a tank bag.
Kill or fuzz out everything within 1mile. ;^) Then again you might
have to start looking out for men with guns that have unrecognizable
acronyms on their windbreakers...kill joys.

Me I'd LOVE to have one and cruise down the road watching cars, cell
phones and such just quit working. Permantly I hope.

Sounds like a fun idea but it could backfire. Some bimbo cager on her
cell, it goes dead; she starts fumbling around for buttons to press
whilst looking at it (instead of the road)...
