Who'd a thunk I'd have so much fun riding a machine that barely
does 50 mph. Riders are always waving at me, even Harley riders.
People come up and talk to me wherever I'm parked. "Is it a BMW?"
"No, it's a Soviet clone." "Oh...?" "Yes, it was used by the Red Army
in the Battle of Kursk." "No kidding!"
I always did like funky...but not too funky. Besides the metallic
ticking sound that started up a few weeks ago, now it's also making
a sound of clashing, rattling metal, like some kind of miniature
cymbals. Is this normal for a Russian bike? Or is it about to blow up.
Any wisdom appreciated
TIA, SQ

With that particular piece of sophisticated machinery, I'd be more
inclined to worry when it *stops* making weird noises.

Sounds that get worse are not a good sign.
They also say that the cost of that last mile you drive it
is usually hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Stop
running it until you know what's going on.
At a very minimum, dump all the oil in the engine and
drivetrain and look for metal (magnet for the steel
and inspection for non-ferous metal). Also spin the rear
wheel while listening for noises and feeling for any
roughness.
I'm saying this after recently destroying a final drive by
running it while hoping I could ignore a noise that I couldn't
identify. You should do as I say, not as I did.

I've learned quite a bit from my own experiences...
