Hi,
just want to ping you guys and thank for the 10 miles nice ride. Sorry I
had to bail out from the supper but I just realized how little time I
had and that storm thing.
I made it home safe but instead of 2:15h I rode for 4h with dramatic
moments in the cold storm on 11K miles almost bold tires (RA is the last
trip before planned change) and almost 45 minutest stop-and-go in
Chicago construction are (midnight -Sunday can you imagine that).
My Aerostich Roadcrafter is not waterproof - period.
The tires thing - I will note repeat the mistake again - better will be
taking my cage. I knew I was floating not riding a few times - bike just
lost the traction and steering.
It was nice meeting you and I hope we will ride again one day.

Andy - it was great to meet you at Road America. Glad you made it
home alright! I just got home four hours ago!

I was worried about you- after what I encountered I figured you
had a good chance of being caught in something similar. Glad to
hear you made it back OK.

Likewise.
After Chuck and I had fantastic prime rib at Schwartz's[1] in
St. Anna:
http://www.schwarzsupperclub.com/
I hopped on the bike. About a quarter mile away from the restaurant,
the heavens opened. It was like having a garbage can full of water
dumped on me. I managed to make it to Kiel, WI where I paused under
a service station canopy to collect my wits. Streetpilot 2610 to the
rescue- find nearest motel, call to reserve a room, and gingerly ride 3
miles in a torrential downpour to the shite-est most overpriced motel
I have stayed at in some time, but it was dry, and there was a portable
"milk house heater" in the room which was tailor-made for drying my
Roadcrafter. Completely dry by morning. You are right, the Roadcrafter
isn't waterproof. It slows the water down but you eventually get wet.
Oh well. I awoke early (4:15) and it wasn't raining much so I figured
it would be best to get going ASAP and I made it back to Algoma WI
without incident.
Coming back to MN this morning I rode in, you guessed it, heavy rain
from Algoma through Green Bay and almost to Shawano, but it was clear
sailing, even bright and sunny in Wausau.
I had a great time meeting Tim, Justin, George, Mike, Dale, you (Andy)
Chuck, and hopefully I am not forgetting anyone. About 1000 miles put
on the new bike, and would you believe riding at 70-72 mph with an
occasional "spirited" passing episode, I got 46.4 mpg on the return
trip, per the FJR's MPG computer.

Glad you made it safely, too. The MPG is a nice bonus on a weekend
when national gas prices for regular hit the $4.00 mark average across
the nation for the first time ever.
Our 7.4L turbodiesel Excursion Limited towing the 24-foot (by 8 foot)
trailer netted 10.9 mpg.

Wowsa. You seem to have found a very efficient way of draining
overfilled checking accounts.
I am totally surprised at the final mpg numbers. During my trip
they steadily increased. I wonder if it's the engine finally
breaking itself in properly (only 2k miles on it now).
