I had to borrow a ramp once to get VStar-650 onto a 4x4 pickup.  No problem
getting it off as we found a pile of dirt to back up into.

Anyway, I was looking at this
http://www.usrack.com/fullsized_truck_ramps.html#

It can be used to extend the bed of the pickup, not just a ramp.  But at
$300+ price I can get a used trailer.   Anyone have any experience with
these?  I would probably get the 1000# one.  Any suggestions?

I don't know.  I use two aluminum ramps when I load bikes.  One for the
bike, one beside it for me to walk on.  I have two 8-foot alumnum ramps
(non-folding) that retailed for (I think) $129 each; I bought them when
I was racing and paid about $80 for each of them.  The bad thing is,
I've since replaced my longbed truck with a shortbed truck, and I don't
like the ramps hanging over the end of the tailgate.

I'm also considering folding ramps, but don't like the prices out
there.  I've also seen the ultra-wide ramps that allow you to actually
ride the bike up into the truck, and back it down straddling it.
That's a definite attraction for loading/unloading the 800-lb+ Street
Glide, if not the smaller, lighter Ducati or Triumph.  I haven't
decided yet.  I like the idea of being able to use the ramp as a tail
gate extender after loading the bike, since I won't be able to close
the tailgate with the bike in the pickup bed now that I have the
shortbed.

Let us know what you decide and how it works out for you!

Long one piece ramps become folded ramps if cut in to and welded back
together with heavy duty hinges and flat metal for a stop. Somebody has a
friend with a welder that could do it.

Trailer.  Much more multi-purpose than a ramp.  Easier / safer to load /
unload.

Every since I sold the old pickup and drive a small SUV the trailer has been
perfect.  And I'd rather lend my trailer to the neighbor and not the entire
truck.

I agree on the trailer. I got a wide folding (width wise) ramp for 49 bucks
at harbor freight. My trailer is low with a little guard rail around it that
is handy for tieing to. I can load and unload my Valk with ease.
