Forward Air is the outfit most frequently mentioned as being
a bike-friendly shipper. Cheapest way seems to be to get a
used shipping crate from a bike dealer.

That's what I was thinking on the crate. There are two dealerships
close to my Moms house in ATL. The dealer I use in Tampa cans throws away
most of their crates.
