I have a 1986 Honda Magna (VF700C) that I just had to replace the fork
seals on. My service manual gives 20 different values for the amount
of oil that goes in each fork.
The left fork is a TRAC fork, while the right fork is a standard fork.
I put 500cc's of 15w Bel-Ray fork oil in each fork.
Now I am wondering, is there a way to tell how much oil goes in the
fork besides measuring the quantity?
The quantity I am going by is for the 85 Magna (non-1100) which is
like 520 in the right fork, and 580 in the left) If anyone has the
correct amounts, or any other info, please let me know...

Look for an oil level dimension, not a fluid measurement, so you can
adjust it to the same level, within 1 millimeter in each fork leg...
The most accurate way to change fork oil is to drain it all out, find a
way to support the front of the bike so you can pull off the caps,
remove the springs, lower the bike so the forks compress all the way,
and then add oil so it comes up to a certain level below the top of the
fork tubes. That's something like 5 to 6 inches (125 to 150 mm) below
the top of the fork tubes. You might have to raise and lower the front
of the bike slowly, expanding and compression the forks, to get all the
air out of the Trac unit. Then, after getting all the air out and
adjusting the levels so they are as close to identical as possible,
raise the front end up to extend the fork tubes and carefully slide the
fork springs back in and install the fork caps...
If you've made the oil level too high (125mm is high, 150mm is low) the
fork will hydraulic lock before reaching maximum travel. This could
blow the fork seals out when the fork locks prematurely...
So, like I said, if you're looking for info, look for a *dimension* not
a volume...
