I have a motorcycle that was just gave to me. We are unsure what it is.
The Vin number is 3G1-21721-006G. There is also another number on the
tree that is stamped into the frame 2FO-201534
Called Yamaha and they insisted the numbers cannot be right and it
would have to start with a 3G5 or 3G0.
We would realy like to be able to understand what we have, the original
colors, wtc so we can begin to restore it to original condition.
ANy help would be greatly appriciated..

How about that XSR1? In about 30 years, some mystified owner is going
to have a hell of a time figuring out how to order engine parts for
that hybrid machine...

Go to this site, select the motorcycle product line, the year you think
the bike was manufactured, go through *all* the models and look in the
service bulletins until you find frame numbers starting with 2FO...

With luck and patience you may find what you want...
