Hi folks,
Can anybody hazard a guess as to what Euro boot size corresponds
to a USA size 8.5 double or triple E? I'm guessing 42 or 43, but
would appreciate any sanity checks offered.
I normally wear Red Wing model 2426 work boots in size 8.5 EEEE, which
is slightly (but only slightly) too wide. Length is about right. In a
D width I have to go up to size 9, which is much too long.
A recent tipover convinced me, through a very unpleasant sprain, that
purpose built motorcycle boots might make sense after all, even for
slowpokes like me. Sidi Road boots are one to catch my attention, but
there may be others worth considering. Opportunities to try such things
on are limited around here (Sacramento, CA) and mailorder is hit/miss
unless I have some idea how to guesstimate sizing. Sidi is said to
"run a bit large" but it's unstated whether that's length, width or.....
Any cousel appreciated, thanks for reading!

Aerostich "Combat Touring," made by Sidi. I was skeptical
when told they "run a bit large" also. I wear a 10-1/2 EEE, and the
boots only come in 10 or 11 US sizes, one width. When they arrived, I
was surprised by a perfect fit. From the sizing chart on the website,
you'd probably choose a size 9.
Just a note: they do take some break-in. When I put them on
the first time, it felt as if they were made of wood. Took a few
hours walking around in them, over a couple of days, before they
started to flex. Now, I can't imagine wearing any other footgear on
the bike.

Seems like your choices would have been 44, 45 or 46 on account of width.
Which one was it?

In US sizes, a 9D will fit me, but it's absurdly too long. Not unewarable,
but obviously a poor fit. That's one of the things I liked about the Red
Wing 2426: Widths to EEEE, with proportions that match both heel and toe.
A 9D is very sloppy in the heel.

In hindsight the "walkability" of the boot is probably not important.
Formerly I commuted to work, and wore the boots as workwear. Now I'm
riding mostly to stay in practice and spend very little time off the bike.
The sprain I got was the result of the boot sole flexing from lengthwise
compression. I'll gladly carry a spare pair of shoes to avoid a repeat!
Thanks for your counsel,

Cruiserworks carries boots in EEEE. I had to get a half size bigger because
the instep was tight. Still a better fit than D. Was able to get the bigger
size with out shipping charges either way. Cruiserworks has a new owner so
that may have changed. Luckily haven't tested the waterproofing yet.
Had been wearing HH harness boots but could hardly get them off when feet
swelled in hot weather.

My mistake they have EEE. I get New Balance in EEEE.
