SALUDA, S.C. Authorities say a worker on a South Carolina peach farm
has been beaten to death by a fellow laborer.
Saluda County Sheriff Jason Booth told WLTX-TV that 28-year-old
Salvador Martinez beat 44-year-old Masedonio Chavis with pruning
shears in his bed Wednesday night at Watsonia Farms in Monetta.
Booth says he has never seen someone beaten so badly.
Investigators say Martinez was still attacking the victim when
officers arrived.
Authorities say officers shot him with a Taser, but Martinez pulled
off the probes and started running. Two deputies wrestled him to the
ground.
Booth says Martinez has been charged with murder and forgery because
he was carrying falsified documents.
Deputies didn't know if Martinez has a lawyer.
