On my 1981 Honda Cb 650 when on the center stand, I was able to move
the rear tire sideways with a clunking noise, with movement in the two
halfs in the middle of the swing arm. The tire moved from the left to
right side about a quarter of an inch or an eighth each direction side
to side. After much cleaning away the roadgrime, I was able to locate
the swing arm grease nipple and fill er up with Penzoil bearing
grease, and now the rear tire appears to be tight with no side to side
movement. Is there any thing else I should be aware of on this old
bike, regarding this situation?
Thanks in Advance for replies.

I'm having a hard time understanding what you mean by "the two halfs in
the middle of the swing arm"

Injecting some grease into the swingarm pivot area cannot possibly repair
what is obviously worn swingarm bearings (waves to Hoyt). You probably
need a new pair of bushings and possibly a new swingarm pivot bolt.
The good news is that none of this is at all difficult to repair.
You probably should carefully check the rear (and the front for that
matter) wheel bearings as well.

If you're getting clunking noises and can move the tire 1/4"
or so, I don't think bearing grease is going to fix your
swingarm problem. Not sure what bearing/bushing arrangments
you have on the swingarm but I think you need replacements.
A swingarm problem of the kind you describe is likely to get
worse. It's likely to show up whenever you hit large bumps
and make your bike unstable and hard to control. I suggest you
really should check it out more carefully and fix it right.
