Hoping someone can help a couple of rookie mechanics.
I have a Interceptor VF500R that I can't get running....seams to be a
fuel issue.
We have replaced the fuel pump, the fuel on/off switch, and have
bypassed the fuel relay switch.  It still wouldn't start.
If we unplug the fuel line from the gas tank and drop it into a can of
gas....bike starts right up.  What, besides the fuel on/off switch
(which has already been replaced) could cause the bike not to start?
There is a hose (smaller than the fuel line) that runs from the on/off
switch.  Seams to be some type of vacuum line.  What is it's purpose
and what does it run to ?

Any help would be appreciated.

It is a vacuum line and it controls the fuel valve on the tank.  It
should connect from the fuel valve to a nipple on one of the carbs or
somewhere on the intake tract.  I don't know where it is on your bike
but I am reasonally sure it is there.  Check the carbs nearest to the
fuel valve.  Hope this solves your problem, let me know.

You can test the vacuum operation by applying vacuum to the line while
the bike is off, and the fuel hose is set to drain into a can. If
applying vacuum starts the flow, and if flow ceases when you release the
vacuum, everything's working right. If not, they you either rebuild or
replace the petcock (they're usually simple and cheap to rebuild). For
sure check out the sabmag site (sabmag.org) for more info on these sorts
of V-4 hondas.

'indiana' is a 'nolnn' and 'hoosier' is a 'solkk'. Indiana doesn't solkk.

Thanks for the info !!  I have another question.....

I have taken the petcock to a bike shop to be tested....it tested out
ok....so I don't think that is the problem.
Is there anything else that could affect the vacuum ?

Or you could ask someone who has a 500 Interceptor sitting in the driveway...

<lifts cover>

No sidestand switch.

You may need to bleed the clutch actuator system.  It's hydraulic, like your
front brakes.  If there's air in the system or a seal has failed, your clutch is
not releasing when you pull the lever.
