No, it doesn't even have the threaded hole for that option. I looked in
the original 1974 owner's manual, and on page 9 it shows a removed head,
just one hole for the spark plug. Maybe you have an aftermarket head, or
someone machined it?

IIRC: The MT250 has the dual plug/compression release hole. Pretty sure
you can swap CR to MT w/o problem but to go the other way you need to
either drill a hole in the MT head or remove a ~6mm stud.

12 mils is on the lower end of points gap. Did you set it that low or
did someone else do it?

For some reason I am a bit timid this morning about giving diagnosis. I
mean it could even be something silly like it is skipping a beat/4
stroking during starting.

At any rate, timing is set for points to just break with the piston at
1.5mm or 60 mils before TDC. 1.5mm is a lot, you can just about check
that with a ruler. You should have a DVM or indicator light to check for
the points opening because in my experience eyeballing it isn't good enough.

Every two stroke motor will spit back if it's timing is too early.

I feel sure that this is your problem.
