Looks like any hopes of saving gas money, etc. by riding my bike are gonna
be erased by purchasing a new rear tire for my bike. Damn! those things
are expensive! $175 + mounting for a silly dunlop radial...?

You could buy something like a Kenda and mount it yourself.

Search online for the cheapest tyre, if its tubeless you can still fit it
yourself. There's various methods like putting a rope tourniquet around the
circumference of the tyre to spread the bead onto the rim, I'm far too lazy
to go to all that effort so I use the pressure from a CO2 fire extinguisher
to blow the bead on the rim.
Beware! - its bloody dangerous if you don't do it right.
Fit a foot pump hose and adapter to the fire extinguisher and HOLD THE
EXTINGUISHER UPSIDE DOWN otherwise liquid CO2 will fill the tyre which will
then burst and cut you to pieces. Also do this without the valve core fitted
so you can let the pressure out quickly.

If you are brave and in a hurry, you can give the tire a
good shot of starting fluid, take a step back and throw a
lighted match near it. Instant bead seating!! Have the air
hose ready to inflate. Does not work with tube type tires.
This should only be attempted by a paid professional under
supervised conditions after have signed total and complete
release from the liability of any other party present or
not.
