Greetings all. My GPz900 takes a 130/80 18 rear tire. Almost impossible to
find that tire size locally, only 1 type available that looks very much like
a cheap cheng shin but branded a Spitfire for 279.00. Before I go through
the hassle and expense (did it on my KZ750 but that's another story) of
swapping in a new swingarm and more current rim etc, can anyone take an
educated guess as to what the max tire size I can fit on this stock rim
might be? I would like to end up with a bit less height, but more width and
was considering a 150/70 18 (which is listed as a replacement tire for this
bike in Avon's catalogue). I have lots (+1.75") of swingarm and chain
clearance, minimal height (0.0") clearance.

I forgot to ask.....since they seem to be more popular/available, how about
a 160/60 18??

Stick with the stock tire size.  Why can't your local tire fitter order
a tire through the mail like you can?  If they won't do that, go
elsewhere or order your own tire and install it yourself, or take it to
someone who will put it on for you.

Dunlop, Metzeler, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Michelin, and other quality
manufacturers (those are just the ones I checked) all make tires in the
correct size for your bike, so limited availability is not an excuse to
screw up your bike's handling by fitting the wrong sized tires.  A bigger
tire will NOT improve anything.
