My son has an 07 KX250f. I bought a Barnett clutch kit (Kit includes Kevlar
friction plates, steel drive plates & heavy duty clutch springs.) at
Christmas. He has rode about 6 times on this clutch and it started slipping
bad today. He rode about 16 months on the OEM before it did not want to
engage. The OEM never slipped. I guess I should have bought OEM. Is that the
general consensus or is there a "better" clutch out there.

Did you adjust the freeplay at the pressure plate after installing the
new kit? Unless it was unmercifully slipped quite often, it should
have held up better than that.

I adjusted the clutch lever to make sure the cable was slack when it was
released.

There may be more to it then that. Is there a procedure in your
maintenance manual that explains clutch system adjustments?

The clutch cable should be disconnected when you assemble and
reassemble the clutch with new components. The freeplay at the
pressure plate MAY need to be adjusted at that time, on Your bike.
(I'm not sure about the clutch on the KX250F.)
