That's my personal best time at the track (that I know of).
A speedy gentleman of similar vintage is several seconds faster per
lap on a sweet (1989?) CR250. I was able to keep a few seconds on
Sean's 125.
I was not there to witness the track record of 57.something, but it
sounds like 'twas a pretty thing. I forget the guy's name,Chuck
something, but it sounds like one secret was to minimize air time to
get maximum WFO time. We are all jumping the finish line to a flat
landing. Chuck would wheelie up the face and chop the throttle at the
crest, virtually eliminating the air time, keeping himself planted and
ready to apply power to the ground. Baaarrraaaaaaowwww!
Later in the day I was feeling faster but in reality had lost a second
per lap. Sorta like my extra strokes on the golf course (more golf for
my money, LOL), I'll just say that was an extra second of fun per lap.
I was feeling good about backing the bike into a downhill right and
then feeding in the power as it sweeps back uphill, almost kinda sorta
drifting the whole way - feeling one with the bike. And I was having
some kind of breakthrough turning in on a rut or berm, getting my
pivot on.
My S12 rear tire is about done after four rides. Yeah, that's it... my
tires were going away. That's the ticket!
I picked rocks as usual, and I raked out turn two and the Talladega
corner.
I have Leatt brace envy - however the f you spell that.
I love my Gas Gas.

You can't accelerate, horizontally, in the air unless you have a
propeller, jet engine or rocket motor.
Think Bubba Scrub...

Indeed...
this is nothing Franz Klammer didn't know.
Making it happen is a whole different story. But this second-hand
vision has me thinking back to skills I tried to learn the one time I
rode a trials bike.
<specifically, the idea of chopping the throttle hard at the top of an
obstacle to keep it all suborbital>
Scrubbing is a horse of a different color, as I think you need to be
comfy with a whip before you can even dream of a scrub.
<<LOL, go ahead and use that one on match.com>> <<I crack me up

The "pre-jump, yes indeed...

I've got the scrub-the-speed-off part, it's the getting up off the
ground and sorting the bike/body out that slows me down.

That is real big here, the Buba Scrub. AJ Catanzaro and most of the
folks who practice at our track work on it all the time. Can't go
forward if your tires aren't on the ground. AJ "chops" the kicker off
nicely flipping the bike sideways going up the face and gets about
parallel with the tabletop, it is great to watch. Most of the faster
kids that work out at Rocky emulate the move. Of course Jessi trys it
too, and sometimes you can almost see the back tire kick out a bit;)
<snerk>.
Back on topic. The other day at Winchester we were hanging with Reagan.
She was doing 2:01 laps average and Jessica was doing 2:34. As I noted
before Raegan is wearing the current Womens jacket for the series at age
14. The winner of the 125 C class averaged 2:01 in his two races but
Reagan didn't do her same lap times there. She noted that for so long
now she has just taken the hole shots and walked away, she has not had
the real in traffic "racing" to do the same times in the 125C as the
Womens. The girls are good friends and Reagan took the last race off to
"play" with Jessi. She stood on her bike and kept looking back, just
standing off Jessi by about 25 to 50 yards, dragging The Mouse around
the track and showing her lines. You could see her taunting Jess around
each corner and Jessi trying like hell to catch her. It was great and I
was grateful that her dad let her blow off a race to help Jess out on
her (Reagan) home track.
Two weeks ago during open practice Reagan was putting a full minute on
Jessi per lap but that was Jessi's first time on a bike, save one
practice indoors, since Dec 1, 09. She is still more comfortable racing
the 100 but she looks pretty good on the 250 really. Reagan of course
has nearly ten years riding and racing but still for her size, she
really handles the bike well. Interesting to watch really, I am
wondering if she is horsing the bike around, or making the bike horse
her around. At about 5'8" and maybe 120 pounds max, she moves well with
the bike either way.
Back off topic, we are going to chase her and some of the other faster
riders around this season and jump around different divisions, find our
races. Most of the girls are keeping in touch and doing the same thing
mostly, some are bound by the racing scheduals of other family members.
Either way, we are going to go to as many different tracks as we can
this year and have some fun, try to find speed. We are very excited
about racing supercross under the lights at Winchester especially, guess
you don't even have to get to the track till 1 in the afternoon! My kind
of racing;) I think Jessi will do well with the 100 in the SX, she is
not afraid to grab the inside rut... Just needs to come off a bit better
and lean a little more and we are going to hit that as soon as the
practice track opens...
Well, time to hit the gym, no Dean, my gut isn't any smaller, but at
least I can carry it a bit further now;)
Rowdy Mouse Racing, the only scrubbin' I do is river clay!
