Hi!
What if I wanted to reroute the front brake hose in a Yam YZ426, so that it
runs "Honda Style" w/o the weird S-shape at the lower wheel axle clamp?
Would it be enough to buy a different set of front fork protectors and
shorten the hose (if necessary) or are there other pitfalls to be aware of?
Volker,
curious

Curious (me too) what your brake hose looks like, I found this.

The type of brake fluid used might be a factor. DOT 5 silicone-based
fluid doesn't absorb water. Would you rather have water collect at a low
point in the hose, or in the caliper?

Thats *exactly* how the current state looks like.

No motorcycle known to me uses DOT5. Yamaha recommends DOT4, I'm using
DOT5.1 (note the ".1") which has a higher wet boiling point and is
compatible to DOT4. So nothing to worry here.

Was never a problem for me. But, yes, it looks like that the fluid is
somehow "dirtier" the closer you get to the caliper. Which recommends the
standard bleeding procedure (open valve, pull lever, close valve, release
lever, check fluid level, refill if necessary and repeat) over the "inverse
approach" since you probably don't want to have grit in your master
cylinder.

You have to buy or make a special clamp. There's a sh*tload of posts
on the subject over on Thumpertalk. Someone over there sells a clamp
that is supposed to be great - no clue on design or cost. Several
others just use hose clamps. I also don't know what kind of brake
line is popular, though most seem to use an aftermarket braided job.
Apparently, Yamaha started using the Honda routing around '05, when
Honda's patent ran out. Maybe you can get stock components from an
'05-'10 model and stick them on?

Sure. I thought about an aftermarket part that fits the bill. The brake
hose I can manufacture myself from some spare parts, no problem.

OK. I'll investigate.

Maybe, yes. But unfortunately, I can't be sure without ordering one (at the
risk of not being able to use it) - our local dealers don't have those
parts in stock...
