I rebuilt and proceded to blow up my YZ 250. I'm in the process of trying
again.
The owners manual states that there should be a letter stamped on the rear
of the cylinder. THERE IS NO LETTER STAMPED ON THE REAR OF THE CYLINDER.
There is an upside down 7. It is supposed to be either A,B,C, or D. The
upside down 7 looks like an upside down 7, not like a partially stamped
letter.
Does anyone know the real scoop on this? This is the stock cylinder. I
explained to the parts guy last time I bought a piston that there was no
letter stamped. Of course, he really didn't care. Apparently, it is
important to match the piston and cylinder.
Thanks.

Not that this will be of much help to ya,but my 02 yz-250 code letter
was on the back cylinder written in a black ink.
Needless to say it is no longer there. I did not notice a stamp, But
could check tomorrow.

Are you sure that "upside-down 7" is not a partially stamped arrow? The
arrow should point at the exhaust port when installed.

We are talking cylinder stampings that let you know which piston to
buy.
The answer is to take the cylinder in to be measured and the purchase
the appropriate piston. Check you local speed shop.
