Hey guys I would like to get one of those battery tenders to keep the
battery up on my sons bike wile its not being used. Battery tender
makes a plus model that puts out 1.25 amp or a jr that puts out .75
amp. The bike has a 12v 5 ah sealed battery, is 1.25 amp to much or
is .75 not enough?

This is what I use
<http://www.vdcelectronics.com/batteryminder_12117.htm>
based on a trusted review in Motorcycle Consumer News. I use it for my
trailer battery, they've lasted years now. Before I used one, I would
replace the battery every summer.

0.75 is plenty for use as a trickle charger. It will usually be
putting out far less than that.
If you have a need for heftier charging (often charging from dead, car
batteries, etc) then go for the biggie.
I occaisionally put my tender-jr on my XR650L during the winter- its a
2001 on the original battery.

The easy way to ensure it doesn't overcharge is to hook the battery tender
up to a light timer, the things you plug your lamps into when you're away on
vacation. Set the timer to come on for 1/2 hour every day. That'll be enough
to keep the battery topped up but not enough to overcharge it.
Been doing this on my CRF250X battery for 3 years now. Works great.
