I was on another forum (I'm not going to say which one so Deeney
doesn't have an aneurysm) and read that you can make the best
penetrating solution going using a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF.
Supposedly better than PB, MMO, even Kroil (although I find that hard
to believe).
Anybody ever try an acetone and ATF mix? If not, please do and report
back.

That's close to Ed's Red, which has a few additional ingredients, and
has a gun-cleaning variant.
Kroil is supposed to be the best, PB Blaster is actually pretty good
for something that is commonly on the shelf.

I've always found KY to be an adequate penetrating lube.
Am I missing something here?-

yep used atf & acetone before works well,
acetone is easy to find, i just snag some from
wife's closet that has all those hair spray brushes &
nail polish things in it that she never uses...
(gosh i love a low maintenance wife) but i like
the pb blaster because it come in those easy to use
spray cans... i have a old paint spray cup gun that i fill
with kerosene/atf and use to soak parts with the
night before i work on them... kero/atf tends to bubble
& peal paint so be careful what you spray.
john
today i voted for the crooks who i gave money to,
who said they'd protect me from the other crooks,
that they said would take my money??
somehow i think I've been swindled,,, again..

I have used kerosene or paint thinner with oil (regular motor oil) to
avoid rust after washing and storing the bikes. Never had a problem,
but I switched to canned WD40 for the ease of use: less mess and price
is almost the same, while smelling much better.
Not sure up where you live, but acetone here is very hard to obtain.
Nail polish remover has only traces of it nowadays... It isn't the
stuff it used to be, I guess govt fear people will use it to refine
drugs.
