I recently bought a ttr 230. A few months ago I bought my grandson a
TTR 125. I had to take both bikes back the next day for repairs. The
125 had old gas and wouldn't idle very good. The 230 just wouldn't
idle. Both with carb problems. Anybody else have these problems?
Also, if you have ridden the 230, what do you think of it as a PLAY
bike? I am old and just looking for a decent trail bike to play on.
TIA,
Hank

I believe I've read both come jetted pretty lean stock. You can
probably find some jetting tips specific to those bikes on
thumpertalk.com.

"old" is pretty relative.
If the bike fits you well and will do what you want it to do, then
it's fine. Personally, I'd think it was small, underpowered and
heavy for where I want to go. I wouldn't rule out any of the
current 250Fs if I were you. Or even an XR250. Or KDX200/220.

My wife has the TTR125. Always had starting problems when we did not
drain the gas out. The dealer told me, California here, that the jet
is so small, that it gums up constantly. He put bigger jets in for me
and we also drain it everytime we come back. We have not had a
problem since. Draining or jetting, I dont know which one fix was the
better.
