My 1977 DT 250 awaits more money but should be ready soon for
licensing and some riding. I was wondering about making some
suspension mods. Does anybody know if the rear swing arm (box
aluminum) and rear shock (adjustable damping) would fit (1982 or so)
on my bike? How about a cylinder from an IT or YZ for more power?

Dear OldFart,
Replacing just the rearsuspension would unbalance the bike...not comfy and
possibly dangerous.
Me thinks i should have an old YZ125 cylinder&piston somewhere...needs
replating, but was replaced instead.
If you would like to see its port-timing i could make a map for you, but
proffessional tuners have that data for a 250.

Lots of talk, little exact data here......pretty much my style ;)

I put 1-inch longer but much softer Honda shocks on my Ducati. Speed wobble.
Fell while tweaking the bars trying to figure out what made it wobble.
Buchanan's straightened the triple-clamp, but it took maybe a month for the
gravel rash to heal. Hint: When the scab is 1/8" thick all over your midriff,
the only solution is to get into the tub, fill it with warm water, and peel it
all off -- start with the cracked area at your waist.
Yes, I know this from experience. When I put the old shocks back the wobble
went away.

had a dt250, i left it stock dt was
nice even torque delivery in fact
it was my 2nd favorite next to the
mt250 for winter riding i suppose you
could tweak it a bit for more high end revving
by upping the compression & doing some
custom exhaust work, but not a real
big gain for vintage parts.... back in the 80's
i would drop a piston on a certain
manufacture's counter in Mentor OH
and they would get out their calipers
wander thru the shop and then
sell me a lighter one with a tad
tighter fit & more rings...

Back then the Honda dealers could actually recognize a motorcycle when they saw
one, even if they didn't know what to do with it. And the parts guys didn't
say 'We can't even order that for you' for half the stuff you wanted. And
green stickers cost $10 for two years. And 2-strokes were cool, not
devilspawn. And we were younger.
In the 70s the big MC multi-brand dealer (Bert's) was just a used-motorcycle
wrecking yard. Life was better then. And we were A LOT younger.
