Got back from a dual-sport trip to Death Valley last night. Got to
experience it in some of its most elemental levels. Wind, snow, rain,
sun; saw goldfish living in a hidden spring, ghosts of ghosts, rainbow
canyons, shells of past dreams.

Regretted having to leave.

Get a plated off-road bike, and go see for yourself. Something not to be
missed.

Goldfish?  Jeez, those must have been the endangered pupfish that are
causing all the trouble.

A long time ago we did that.  Definitely a good thing to do.  Even if
you do it in a car it's something that nobody should ever miss.

It's good to go after a BIG rainy season because the little slot side
canyons fill up with rubble that only gets washed down when a lot of
water sluices through.  We've done both.  Post-wet is way better.

Nope. Goldfish. We saw the pupfish in Salt Creek...meh. The goldfish are
way more fascinating. Near Darwin. No signs, no park service 'splaining.
Just...there.

Sounds like you spent some time in my favorite place on earth.
Saline Valley. If you were there when it snowed there is a good
chance you would still be there....for another week or so..till it
 melted enough to drive/ride out.
That area is a magical place indeed.

Yeah, among others :)

Well, then we beat the odds. We were on top of Hunter Mtn. as the snow
started. Wasn't really sticking to the ground yet, but we were close to
frozen by the time we got back to camp.

The second morning snow level was down to about 3500 feet...
