I've heard that gas prices in United States currectly is something
around US$ 5.00 per gallon, except that's nothing compared to the gas
prices we have....
The last time I filled one of my vehicles, I paid NOK 15.35 per litre,
and when converting that to US gallons and US$ (using current exchange
rate), that equals a gas price of approx. US$ 11.30 per gallon.....!!!

As I noted in another group, I believe we here in the US travel a lot
further than you all do over there in a typical year, just to function
as a family. If I look back over the years since I have been driving, I
think I average about 12-15,000 miles a year just for my car, add a few
thousand for the wife's car and you have close to 20 thousand miles,
just to survive. What is the average travel per year for you in Norway,
since what we consider a trip to the store here, is a trip across the
country for you;) ??

That may actually be very different, partially dependent on where in the
country one live. As I live in the part of the country where distances
are much greater than more populated areas, we travel a lot more here
than further south in the country.
Some years ago I worked as an insurance agent, and from then I remember
that many clients in my part of the country stated in their insurance
application annual travel distances of either 20,000 km (12,400 miles),
30,000 km (18,600 miles), or even 50,000 km (31,100 miles).
I've actually never owned a car myself (!), and the majority of all my
vehicles haven't had more than two wheels...
One year (according to my riding logs), I drove my Yamaha FJ 1200 a
total of 45,742 km (28,423 miles) during the summer season from about
the end of April to the end of October, which equals a MONTHLY average
of 7,624 km (4,737 miles)...!!!!! ;->
A two-wheeler have of course much lower fuel consumption than a car.
At the lowest measured fuel consumption, the FJ 1200 had a mileage of
approx. 33 km/litre (equal to approx. 78 miles/gallon)...
For my little street legal two-wheeler (which I also used in the winter
with studded tires) and at the lowest measured fuel consumption, it had
a mileage of approx. 81 km/litre (equal to approx. 190 miles/gallon)...

That's in the average of what I did last year 20,000km on the
motorcycle + 15,000km on the car.

ouch, ouch, triple ouch. 35km/l is what I do on my CG125. I blame the
import corn ethanol for that!!!! I want my perfectly good cane sugar
ethanol back!!!!!
Seriously enough now, this is the proof that E25 might not be such a
great idea. A 125cc bike sipping gas at the same rate as a 1200cc???

The lowest fuel consumption with a mileage of 33 km/l for the FJ 1200
were measured at some long distance trips at even speed close to the
speed limit, and with a minimum of rapid accelerations and similar.
When riding in cities with rapid stops at road crossings and similar,
the fuel consumption will of course be some higher.
According to my driving logs where I at every refueling recorded the
exaxt amount of gas filled and the odometer standing, the total average
mileage for the FJ 1200 were exactly 22.4 km/l (approx. 52 miles/gal).

Well, not quite.....
My "little street legal two-wheeler" is actually an older 50 cc
offroad-style Yamaha DT50-MX2 as the full model name is.
BTW, ALL two-wheel vehicles I currently own (or previously owned) have
one thing in common as all of them are/were Yamahas, which also apply to
other vehicles and similar like snowmobiles, ATV, outboard engines, snow
blower, power generator...
As being a satisfied and loyal Yamaha customer since my very first
Yamaha vehicle about 30 years ago, I did some X-mas'es ago send a huge
chocolate box to the Yamaha main distibutor to thank for excellent
service throughout these years.
In return from Yamaha, I got a velvet-lined case containing a fountain
pen with "YAHAHA MOTOR CO." in gold plated engraving accompanied with a
personally signed card from a Yamaha CEO.....
On the contrary though, I've had _ONE_ incident with poor repair work
from a Yamaha dealer that in worst case could have ended up in a very
life-threatening situation for me, and where that incident partially
contributed to the fact that the Yamaha main distributor some later
terminated that dealers Yamaha dealership alltogether and for ever.....
