I was wondering one of those thoughts...
Did 'extreme sports' pop up about 5-10 years after they started
wussifying playgrounds? Getting rid of monkeybars, no more swings and
monkeybars over pavement, etc., etc.
It occurred to me no one who grew up on an 'old school' playground
would ever think of doing some of the crazy crap they do nowadays.
*We* know that when you fall down, you get hurt.
Wouldn't there be a fair bit of irony if in 'protecting' kids by
smoothing and softening every surface ended up turning them into
raving sports lunatics...
