Check out the other thread on ADV referenced in this thread. Apparently,
this has been somewhat of an ongoing concern.

I've been following that thread for a couple of days. It's amazing how
many people seem to think that there are ANY circumstances where that
failure wouldn't be a sure sign of a huge design or production flaw.
Most of the people on ADV appear to be frggin' idiots, but they are
extremely opinionated and stubborn idiots. Usually wrong, too.
If that had been my new BMW with less than 100 miles on the clock, my
dealer would have needed a surgical team to remove the bike from his
ass if he tried to blame that shit on me.
I sure lost a lot of respect for the BMW corporation in reading that
thread.

I can't see the dealer aligning themselves with anyone other than the
customer. They have absolutely nothing to gain. The only reason they'd
have to act defensive was if it did turn out to be something grossly wrong
with the prep work - although I can't fathom what it could possibly be.
