Last weekend I stumbled upon two well used Suzzukis for free at a
garage sale out here in the desert. One is a TS 185 and the other
appears to be an early 70s TM125. Naturally the TM interests me the
most. I cannot find any numbers on the engine or the frame, even up at
the top under tha handlebars. The swing arm is aluminum with two
positions available for the rear shocks. the shocks are nitrogen
filled with remote resevours but nothing to indicate the make. Could I
have stumbled upon a factory bike well used then discarded like trash?
Just thinking while fondling some body parts. OF
My 1st wager, is you stumbled across (even possibly, long ago) STOLEN
motorcycles, and that is only if the stamped serials aren't there...
the numbers are stamped into engine "halves" (not talking about the
removable access covers). I think research also shows factory bikes had
serials as well, just to make sure that Suzuki got the bikes back...
as I read your post, I think you know where to look behind forks, where
bearings are on frame. Lots of times just like Shwinn badges are placed on
a bicycle. Engines, I have seen them in hard to find spots, yet semi
plainly in view, when you get inspections by state authorities, they record
these numbers and compare to your documentation, aka check to see if
reported stolen or not. Insurance uses these numbers too, so even though
the TM is off road only, as far as I ever knew, they are also required to be
stamped. I started riding in 72, I was 5. still ride & wrench.
