Hi Folks! Happy New Year!
2012 has been started off in a grand manner.
Saturday Night, the house was full of kids, grandkids, and friends
(and Deb and me.). We blew up fireworks until Midnight.
Just after midnight, Deb and I played a bit of split screen Call of
Duty MW3, and then called it a night.
Sunday morning (NYD), I headed to TrainRobbers Trail, where I met
with the Arkansas Dirt Riders and some extra riding friends, for a day
of delectable single track. My 39 year old son, Joshua, drove over to
join us, and rode the XC200 loaner bike. I started off on the DE300.
We broke up into groups, and took off. (The morning group I was
leading consisted of five adults and four older teenagers, who were mx
riders.) The kids got some education on hills, rocks, and
singletrack; along with some real good quality riding. ( It was
especially fun watching three of the teens flounder on one rough rocky
hill climb, and then seeing a 75 year old rider ride smoothly up the
hill right up through the middle of the carnage. :)
Four of the adults spent the day swapping bikes to check them out.
I spent 12 or so miles aboard a CRF250x, and another 15 aboard of
WR250F (and another 10 miles aboard the XC200, in addition to another
10 on my 300.). The Honda and Yamaha didn't baby me as much as my 300
does, and I woke up twice last night with leg cramps. (In my mind as I
rode the WR450F, I kept calling the bike "Kamala". It had plenty of
easy to use power, but was a good bit of work to shove between the
trees.)
On the afternoon ride, RahRah and two of his friends joined us,
raising the total number in our group to 12. (They rode with a faster
group in the morning.) RahRah is now riding a brand new 2010
Husaberg 450. He was grinning, big time.
The trails were primo.
The traction was perfect.
The company was excellent.
The weather was optimum. (sunny, with a range of 50 to 65F)
I don't know about you all, but some days it is all I can do to stay
on the bike, and everything feels awkward.
Then, there are other days where I am riding with fingertips on the
controls, feeling almost like a ballet dancer, completely under
control, and with almost no effort.
Yesterday was just such a day. I could dance. Perfect!!!
I wish that you all had been there. I love those trails.
Bob Diffee and Tom Steele went to Bear Creek today, to check out and
plot the course for out hare scramble in early March.
I weenied out on them, and stayed home, to make sure I had no more leg
cramps, at least today.
Good Riding to You All!

Excellent RR Jim!
The boy and I weenied out of a morning new year's motorbike
ride as nobody else wanted to go, the muck here is incredible.
We had a record rainfall this past year of 11 inches over the
next highest year. So we went to Ray's indoor mountain bike
place instead. Ran into a bunch of other old motocrossers
and put in a ton of laps, I'm sore today.
The boy is not. Kids.....
Go fast. Take chances.

You should have made him clean the bikes, and if he still wasn't sore
you should have beaten him with a stick until he was.
Nobody said proper parenting was easy.

I'll let him know that's the plan next time.
Go fast. Take chances.

Love to ride there, Jim and thanks for showing Greg and I around the place
in years past.

So, you were like 15 when he was born. ;)

I know exactly what you're talking about. I had more than a few "dances"
last year starting with the WUDI ride. I'm really looking forward to 2012.

Me too, but work prevailed.
See you at the WUDI ride or maybe sooner if the East Coast Spodefest pans
out.
