...took another rider yesterday. John had just gotten there and I have
to wonder if his bike was warmed up enough. Someone said it just burped
a bit going up the face of the "Parking lot" 65 foot jump and endoed
real bad. He broke his femur and his arm...
That little jump has taken more riders this season than any other area
of the track. At least 6 breaks and several totaled bikes that I know of
personally and we missed about 6 weeks of track time this summer. The
problem is everybody with a 250 thinks they can do it and it's just a
tricky jump.
Initially it had a much longer setup but too many kids were just wailing
it and thinking they could handle other stuff so the track owners
chopped the corner a bit tighter and made it a bit more tricky. Either
way, I have to admit, most of the accidents I have seen there were
really rider error. If you land that one nose high with the bumps on the
landing, you "are" going over the bars when the back end bounces up...

That's the one jump I don't hit. It's just too stupid. I roll it, and
single the landing ramp. There's no good reason to have such a big
penalty for coming up short.
And people who hit it but aren't clearing it don't get through there
any faster than I do. I love the right-left-right that comes next.
It would be a nice tabletop.
Sorry to hear about John. Sounds double painful.

Yeah, just got the news today, he broke a femur, an arm, fractured
another arm and tore his liver. It's not bleeding, but they are going to
wait 4 days before they rod the leg or set the wrist. He is in a lot of
pain... He was just coming back from another break too, I hear he is
saying he is done this time...

That sucks. My liver hurts just thinking about it.
I hate having that "am I done" conversation with myself; pitting
dreams against cold truths.
