BARRE TOWN – Police are looking for the driver of a dirt bike who led
them on an eight-mile chase through three communities before escaping
on a hard-packed snowmobile trail at the end of a dead-end road in
Plainfield Sunday afternoon.

State police say they tried to stop the operator of the small
motorcycle for speeding on Phelps Road in Barre Town shortly after
noon on Sunday. However, the operator refused to stop for emergency
lights and continued on to Cutler Corner Road leaving Barre Town and
entering Orange. The biker, who was reportedly wearing a Motocross
helmet with goggles and a red or dark orange colored jacket, turned
left on to Reservoir Road and on to Brook Road after crossing into
Plainfield.

Once in Plainfield the biker turned right on to East Hill Road and
right again on Bean Road where he foiled an attempt to corner him on
the dead-end road by escaping on a snowmobile trail.

Police said the dirt bike could be heard traveling along the VAST
snowmobile trails near Brook and Reservoir Road near the Plainfield-
Orange town line.

Anyone with any information regarding the operator or motorcycle in
this incident is asked to call Trooper Richard Ostrout with the
Vermont State Police at 802-229-9191.

Condoning?  I'm applauding!  Just exactly how fast was this "speeding", anyway?
