RMD:
I purchased a crankshaft assebly from Hot Rods for a 1994 KX 250. I
have been checking the specifications on the crank and wanted to get
your opinion. I measured the width of the crank at the flyweights,
not the width of each flyweight but the assebled width from the outer
edge of the left flyweight to the outer edge of the rigth flyweight.
My OEM crank measured 2.3339 inches, however, the Hot Rod crank
measured 2.3490 (NSK calipers with dial indicator). That is a
difference of 0.0151" I measured the width at several locations: at
the pin, 90 deg from pin, 180 deg,...and the differnce in measurements
(for Hot Rod) was about 0.010" with 2.3490 being the largest
measurement. Would you be concerned that, due to the extra width, the
clearance between the cases and the crank flyweights is too small and
may cause interference/contact between the flyweights and the cases?
I do not see any specifications for the assebled width of the
flyweights in the Kawasaki service manual.
I did measure the rod clearance and it was fine at 0.022". I will put
the crank on a lathe today and measure the runout.
If you have any suggestions I would appreciate them. Thanks for your
help,
~Tom
Put it together and run it. It will probably be fine.
