ARRA Alert

operation.)
Contact Your Senator to Have Your Voice Heard
The House had its hearing now the Senate will have its turn. As
you may recall, a House Natural Resources Subcommittee held a
hearing on OHV use in March and we asked you to weigh in at that
time. Your efforts paid off. While the testimony from several of
the witnesses had an anti-OHV slant, the actual comments from
the Members of the Committee were largely supportive of managed
OHV recreation.
Now it is important to weigh in on the Senate hearing.
The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee has scheduled
an oversight hearing "to receive testimony regarding off-highway
vehicle management on public lands" on June 5, 2008. The witness
list has not been set as of this time, but it is important that
OHV enthusiasts weigh in with members of the Committee to make
sure they understand the importance of continued and improved
OHV recreation on federal lands.
Please click the take action button below to send a message to
your Senator, who is an Energy and Natural Resources Committee
Member, outlining your support for OHV recreation on federal
lands.
ARRA and other national OHV organizations are working with the
Committee to ensure that the voice of OHV enthusiasts will be
heard at the hearing, but we need your help to ensure that each
member of the Committee hears from the OHV community prior to
the hearing.

Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources
----THIS LETTER WILL BE SENT IN YOUR NAME----
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],
As a constituent and a member of Americans for Responsible
Recreational Access (ARRA), I write to make you aware of my
support for responsible off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation on
federal lands in advance of the Energy and Natural Resources
Committee hearing scheduled for June 5.
I enjoy OHV recreation and know first-hand that it is a
legitimate and sustainable form of recreation on federal lands.
The reasons people ride OHVs on public lands are as varied as
the people who ride them. For some, motorized recreation
provides an opportunity to spend a family day in the outdoors;
others enjoy the opportunity to see much more in a single day
than would be possible on foot; some use their OHV to access
remote camping, fishing and hunting locations, but all OHV
enthusiasts need your help to ensure continued access for our
form of recreation.
I understand the need for management of OHV activities, but I
would like to be clear that effective management does not equal
wholesale closures. The U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of
Land Management are currently in the process of developing
designated systems of trails and routes for OHV use, as both
agencies understand that continued access is contingent on
effective management. Both agencies also understand that OHV
recreation has a place on public lands and that motorized
recreation can be provided for in an environmentally sustainable
manner.
Thank you for your consideration. Please use the June 5 hearing
as an opportunity to highlight responsible OHV recreation as a
positive, legitimate use of federal lands.
