It was bound to happen sooner or later......

Finished repacking the silencer on the KDX last night and it was time to do
a test run now that the silicone had cured. I flippantly nodded to the new
teenager in the house and asked if he wanted a shot at it. Always reluctant
in the past and a mite nervous about the height/weight issue, to my
surprise, he jumped at the chance to take a spin on his first smoker.

I got it warmed up for him and handed him the reins with very graphic
descriptions about the differences in power and the delivery of such on a
smoker (KDX220) as compared to the little thumper (XR100). Phrases like
"the clutch is your friend" and "here is the kill switch" etc...and with a
final reminder about how to drop and roll on dismount if all else
fails...and he was off.

A little timid at first, but before long the sound of a buzz saw emanated
from around the back side of the property as he found the rev-limiter in 1st
gear.
After a quick hand signal exchange, he popped it into 2nd and was all
WooHoo's.

Here are a few shots from the big event:

Finding out how to create braking bumps in the yard (Happens when you
realize a little too late that you actually have to pull in the clutch when
braking a bike that is running faster and carries more weight into a turn
than the lightweight XR) :-O

Back on it in 1st after the turn. (Around the flowering cherry a little too
close limbs flying everywhere and he just about close lined himself here.)

Wide open in 2nd gear and all smiles!

Taken just as it hit the pipe in 2nd and he turned the mighty KDX into a
unicycle I was just a tad too quick on the shutter or would have had a
classic shot here.

Big fun this afternoon, but now I'm probably gonna have to get a disc lock
for my bike. :-)

Oh crap! Is that how it works? We have a bunch of guys at the track
trying to get me to let the Mouse take a ride on a green smoker, and
her gear is pink and black!

Of course you could have him do what the Mouse did last night. She
took all the plastic off of her new bike and painted the thing frekin'
glossy black, and no stickers anywhere! I still have not figured that
one out yet, but she drives the thing, so black it is. Anyway, I got
to teach her how to wetsand and we started playing with the airbrush;)
Black, all the frekin' plastic.. ugh.

Wrong. She's EXACTLY right. If it's not necessary, take it off. Plain
black is good. How old is she again? Wise behond her years...
