Have an 1982 Husky 430XC and can't seem to find a clutch cable that
fits. The outer sleeve on the one I have and the one I bought is about
a half inch too short, so the Magura lever adjuster has to be all the
way out. Maybe I need new levers as well. The new cable is also as
stiff as a coat hanger, so it does not stay seated in the lever socket
with handle bars at the left extreme.
Anybody know of a good source for good quality (flexible) cables that
actually fit?

Perhaps the adjuster on the Magura lever is not the original one. The
original ones are longer than the el cheapo aftermrket ones that come on el
cheapo aftermarket levers. (some dealers will act like they are saving you
some money) Not a real good fix is to cut and file on another adjuster and
tape it to the one you have. Other than that you can take the clutch cover
off and adjust the thing in the center of the clutch if that is loose which
will rotate the lever on the top of the engine gear case farther away from
the perch on the other side of the engine. Generally I think my adjusters
are pretty much all of the way out and I might have a shim in one of them.
Did you get a motion pro or a terry cable or something else?

Thanks for your prompt reply.
The levers are original Magura. Also have a 1979 390 OR, and the
levers are the same.
The clutch plates look like new and have adjusted the pin in the
center of the clutch hub so that the lever on the engine case travels
the the 5 to 8 mm that the manual lists (about 6mm before it touches
the pressure plate, so the clutch will fully engage). The push rod
clears with the above spec on the arm travel, but the cable adjustment
on the handle lever is still at max.
Years ago, when I was much younger with a 1966 BSA 441 Victor, I had
to make my own cables. Maybe this is what I need to do now.
Does anyone offer the parts and pieces to make our own cables? Did not
find anything with a few Google searches.
Thanks again for your reply.

Wouldn't you just un solder the end cut three foruths an inch off the inner
portion and re solder. Maybe you tin the ends and fray them a bit past the
close fit part. You have everything you need just re use it. I would
rather extend the threaded adjuster which goes in the lever perch.
I agree with Mike the motion pro is the best, it is not flexible though but
can be routed and tied in place.
I think a few years later than what you have they made the arm on top of the
clutch thing at the engine longer. It isn't uncommon to find that someone
has lengthened that arm themselves. You could cut that arm and re position
it a bit there are lots of those things for spares out there. I never
realized about the 5 to 8 mm play you mention I just make it barely loose
and those might be the 6 mm you need. I will have to re check the book.
Just to keep on typing, if you grab the clutch basket and push and pull on
it does it have a lot of play? The force of the clutch pull at the lever
gets transferred to a clip around a bearing on the main shaft. That clip
has a tendency to sink into the magnesium case resulting in worsening of the
issue this thread is about.

I think you'll get all the answers to your current questions, as well
as to many of your future questions, by checking in with this yahoo
group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HuskyOwners/
There are a lot of resources for information and parts for old
Huskies.
