Found a leaking fork seal, cleaned out the dust cap, then tried my
tried and true method of sliding a piece of 35mm film in to dislodge
and grit. Managed to break of a corner of the film and it's now
somewhere above the oil seal and I can't seem to fish it out.
Gahhhhhh.
Should I tear the fork down & put in new seals to get the film out?
It's about a .125" roughly square corner, where the perforations left
a weakened edge. Gonna use a business card next time....
Have this vision of the film working its way down and plugging up the
valve.

My vote: Just get it next time you change the fork seals.
(Throwing out my 35mm film piece in the a.m.)
I've got one of those $4.00 Motion Pro seal cleaners that seems to work
very well, by the way.

Yeah, next time I'm in Cycle Gear I think I'm going top pick one up. I
decided to tear it down, even though I managed to get the leak
stopped. Too much cognitive dissonance. At least, that's what it felt
like.
Found the piece of film right where I thought it would be.

It was bigger than I thought it would be, folded over on itself.

Spent an enjoyable day wrenching on the old guy. I had three sets of
fork seals/bushings leftover from my days as the race team mechanic &
bottle washer. No excuse not to make it right...

Pretty sure that's where I picked mine up.

The piece of mind was worth the effort then.

Change the glide bushings while you are at it. They look pretty shot to me.
Doing so on my YZ426 worked wonders!

Heck - at least it was done RIGHT!

Ah! Excellent! That was what I wanted to hear. Good job!
> No excuse not to make it right...
Exactly. There are - as you put it - just too few heartbeats in a man's
life for NOT making it right.
Cheers,
