OK, now I hope that tune doesn't stick in your head, but I'm looking
for some hard saddlebags for my streetbike. Tracy wants a top-box as
well as she likes the security of the backrest. The more I ride it
AND get Tracy to drive the car, the more fuel that's left in the
off-road riding budget because all the really good riding is 3 or more
hours away.

How serious are you? My buddy has these on his Vstrom

and they're absolutely indestructible. Put the ice and beer in and
go.
I don't think they make a top rack though. Get a sissy pole
and make a fashion statement.
Go fast. Take chances.

There are only 2 problems with those. They are expensive and ugly.
I'm hoping someone has a set of Givi bags sitting in their garage
taking up space.

Mike,
I had Givi bags on my VFR a few (nearly 10!, where does the time go?)
years back. There weren't cheap, but they were secure, sturdy and
weatherproof. I was very happy with them. I had two hard bags, side
mounts & a top rack. I'd run the two bags on the sides and strap my
tent & crap to the top rack when I was alone, and run a single bag on
the top rack as a backrest for Ann Marie when we rode together. It
worked out well. A third bag would've been nice for 2-up touring type
rides, but I never got around to getting one since the single bag held
enough for our day trips with room to spare (and I'm cheap).

I got spoiled with Concours. Big saddlebags and a large top box made
the bike very useful. Arrive and lock-up all your gear. Awesome.
